Rewind

Courtney LeBlanc

I want to rewind
to the day we met, undo all the things
I’ve done. I want to take back that first
kiss – when you pressed me up against
the wall, ground your body into mine.
I want to take back the low growl
that escaped my lips, that told
you everything. I want to take
back your hot skin against
mine, the sheets wrapped
around us, your hand on my
hip – as if I hadn’t pledged
myself to another. I want to take back
my lips on your skin, the frantic
phone calls, the secret texts.
I want to take back the discovery,
the words flying like buckshot – uncaring
where they landed but knowing they’d
hurt. I want to take back the fists
clenched, the jagged
pacing, the hole punched
in the wall. I want to take
back the ache inside me, the way
the word yes fell from my lips.
