We are particularly interested in showcasing emerging writers and artists, but all submissions are welcome. Because of our mission to give a voice to those who are seeking a place for it, we do not accept previously published work.

We accept fiction, nonfiction, poetry, screenwriting, and photography. For fiction and nonfiction, we ask for 500-1500 words. For poetry and photography, please send 1-3. For screenwriting, we ask for 5 to 10 pages of a completed short. In the end, we will accept the 15 best pieces or artists.

If you wish to submit in a language other than English, please submit an English translation along with it. Also, indicate if your piece is a simultaneous submission and inform us immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere.

Please include a 50-word bio with your submission and indicate if acceptance would result in your first publication.

The Green Light publishes multiple times a year.  We accept submissions on a rolling basis, but we will provide deadlines for each issue. Sprinkled amongst our regular issues will be a few fantastic special issues.

To submit, send your work as an attachment to Please indicate the type of submission (i.e. fiction) in the subject line of your e-mail and add your bio in the body of the e-mail. If you are submitting a piece for consideration in one of our upcoming special issues, we request that you also indicate that in the subject line of your email.

If you wish to send multiple pieces, please send each in its own document. Our preferred format for written submissions is .docx and .doc.

In April 2019, we will be publishing our fourth special issue for National Poetry Month. This issue will feature exclusively poetry. From April 1st – April 29th, we will publish one poem per day on our blog. Poems for each week will be picked the weekend before. On April 30th, we will publish the 30 poems we had picked throughout the month in our fourth special issue in the archives.

Any poetry submissions received between now and 4/27 will be considered for the fourth special issue. Poetry submissions we have received prior to now will also be considered for the fourth special issue.

We still welcome submissions of all other genres which will be considered for a future fifth regular issue.
